Description:
They didn't want to hold still or let me near them to take a pic. Seems the further east I went the more willing things became to jump at my face. At an Arizona rest stop in September 2014. Hmm. These are interesting creatures. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taeniopoda_eques Wiki says they are rather toxic to eat and will spew a foul chemical at enemies, the spitting grasshopper. The black color is used to help them thermoregulate, and the bright yellow and green is to indicate they are not good to eat.
