I was surprised to see such a big fish in a shallow intermittent pond that often dries up after weeks of no rain. I'm estimating it was about 2.5 feet long and was about 4 to 5 times larger than the biggest fish I have seen there in the past. I suspect it escaped from a large neighborhood retention pond upstream during flooding a few weeks ago, or may have come from a large pond upstream that keeps water most of the year. Initially I thought it was a catfish because of the feelers on the mouth, but then found it is likely a common carp.
