I only recently learned about this pretty black moth, Stericta carbonalis. It's a recent arrival to New Zealand from Australia. I was surprised to find 16 dead ones by the windows in the shed at the back of this section. There's a block of big old eucalypt trees about 80 m away (to the southwest).
