Description:

A moon jellyfish, Aurelia aurita, was collected by a surface plankton tow near Port Aransas, during an Invertebrate Zoology field trip near Port Aransas on the R/V Katy. A few people touched it and did not have a reaction, except for one person, who reported a mild discomfort but no burn or redness on the skin. Its nematocysts are usually described as mild and often do not cause allergic reactions or burns.
