The bontebok is an interesting story. Extinct in the wild, but not endangered. Hunted almost to extinction, down to about 20 animals in the 1930s, the surviving bontebok were translocated and benignly introduced to parks, reserves, and private farms across the Western Cape and elsewhere in Southern Africa.
