Description:
Spur-winged plover family at the Mitre 10 'fire site' - 2 adults, 4 chicks recently hatched. Chicks were foraging/drinking from puddles in car park area. Parents threatened by photographer would hide chicks under their wings, photos 4, 5, 6, 7. New Zealand dotterel pair have also hatched chicks at this location, and flew overhead at the time photos of SWP were taken. Pied stilts have also hatched chicks at the location. Adult birds fly across nearby motorway to Manukau Harbour foreshore to forage.
