Description:

Well today at Elmer W. Oliver was crazy. I was walking with my dad like we always do after school and at the corner of my eye I saw something weird sitting on a brush pile. The colors and patterns didn't look like that of any leafs or brush so I took a few steps back to find this sucker sitting on a few sticks. This Copperhead was about two feet long or so and was as still as could be. It was humid and I saw a few herps today not much but a few. This one is my very first photo of a venomous snake. Copperheads are venomous and when observing them keep a safe distance. This guy was pretty close to the trail but I was knelt down a few feet away. I was partly on the trail and the brush pile he was a good distance away but still I didn't want to disturb him. He was very still and very interesting to watch. It was beautiful. I just love the patterns on these things. This was one cool find. This is by far one of the most dangerous encounters even though I was quite safe from it. He was not threatened by our presence and he was not provoked. We were able to watch him without incident. He was an absolute beauty and one of the coolest encounters this month. These things will eat anything they can take down like mice, rats, lizards, and other animals. I can go on and on and on about this snake. This is the second Copperhead I have seen at Elmer W. Oliver and it was an incredible find.
