Description:

Poecilognathus unimaculatus Updated and Revised: Thanks for the ID. Cody Hough just had one approved to the species level about a month ago here on iNat. His observation and mine are of the same bee fly. It's Poecilognathus unimaculatus. His observation occurred in Yavapai, Arizona. It's the same bee fly and it can be accessed here: http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/1867673 -- Genus Poecilognathus – a member of Bee Flies 20 September 2015: Walked about Ray Roberts State Park, Isle du Bois Branch, in Pilot Point, Denton County, Texas and came upon this tiny bee fly belonging to the Genus Poecilognathus. This tiny bee fly was nectaring on Prairie False Foxglove both on the inside of the flower and after on the outside as demonstrated by the images shared in this observation. Our thanks to John F. Carr and Jeff Brown for making the IDentification at BugGuide and our thanks of course to BugGuide and its staff for facilitating this process.
