Description:

Summary[edit] Description: English: Tawny Frogmouth mother bird with 32 day old chicks. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Date: 5 November 2011. Source: Own work. Author: Alan U. Kennington. Made at a distance of about 15 metres with a 400 mm zoom lens (200 mm plus doubler). Even on 2011-11-11, 38 days after the chicks hatched, they have never once left the nest. They are completely incapable of flying at this age. They will be unable to catch their own food for another couple of months after they do finally leave the nest. Their flying ability is abysmal for about a month or two after leaving the nest. I have been observing this mother bird for 12 months now. It was sitting on the nest for about 25 days before the eggs hatched. Licensing[edit] : This file is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. :.
