Summary[edit] Description: Barbarijse grondeekhoorn. Inheems in Algerije, Marokko en de Westelijke Sahara en exoot op de Canarische Eilanden. Enkele als huisdier naar Fuerteventura meegebrachte exemplaren ontsnapten of werden vrijgelaten en ze pasten zich zo goed aan dat er nu ongeveer een half miljoen over heel het eiland voorkomen. Barbary Ground Squirrel. First introduced from Africa in 1965 on Fuerteventura, the squirrel adapted beautifully to its new home.
