Description:
Hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae), Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, Northampton County. The hemlock woolly adelgid, an exotic insect pest, has wreaked havoc on forest and stream ecosystems across eastern North America. At the park, some of the old-growth hemlocks are infested. To save the trees, the park service has used a combination of biological controls (predator beetles) and insecticide injections. The beetles have not been reliably effective.
