around four times she side-stepped and came close upon me. Draw-ing back my right foot I kicked her onthe nose as it came low when she step-ped into a hollow. This caused her tojump back about ten yards, where shestood grumbling to herself. Leaving her there I went over the ridgeto find the bull that had made the racketwith his horns, but he had srone to partsunknown; saw another moose cow, how-ever. She fled with great precipitation.Did not get a moose out of this herd, but was fortunate enough to kill a fineone two days later at a point a mile fur-thersouth. In four dayshunting I sawsev-enteen moose, (mostly cows) and forty-onedeer; havebeen born and brought up amongbig game, and since the age of nine haveseen some hundreds of moose, but neverbefore saw one act the same as this one.Perhaps it was the animals curiosity.Perhaps my avoidance of it caused themoose to think that I was afraid of HerHighness. The time was just at twilight. Many animals are less shy at this periodof the day.
