Description: Gyromitra ambigua (P. Karst.) Harmaja Image location: Sauvie Island, Oregon, USA About a dozen, growing on the beach, on some logs that the river brought here. Could be G. infula too, but that’s supposed to be more lightly colored, without purplish tints. The spore size is the distinguisher; last year I collected one from the same place and it was ambigua (Observation 93285). My nomination for the least attractive large fungus.
