Description: Opuntial polyacantha inhabits short statured sagebrush steppe with high native plant cover and other indications of infrequent disturbance. The occurrence of this cactus in highly degraded sagebrush steppe, such as the wild horse refuge in the Pryor Mountain region, must be residual rather than adventive.
