Fructification twofold, on differentindividuals: 1, ovate capsules (ceramidia) furnished with a terminalpore, and containing a tuft of pear-shaped spores; 2, ietras^wresimbedded in swollen branchlets. Polysiphonia (Grev.),—fromnoXvs, many, and a-icpcov, a tube. Polysiphonia Carmichaeliana; stem inarticulate, percurrent, flexuous,rigid, set throughout with lateral, alternate, inarticulate, divaricatingbranches; ramuli scattered, very patent, irregularly forked, articulate;articulations as long as broad, three-tubed.
