Description:

Summary[edit] Description: As part of their reproductive cycle, the wavy-rayed lampmussel attracts fish which nip at the mussels display, black in this case, thinking they're get a meal. Instead, the larval mussels, contained in packets between the black flaps, are released. Some will attach the fish, where they'll live for a while before dropping to the river bottom to grow into adults. Credit: Gary Peeples/USFWS www.fws.gov/asheville/. Date: 8 September 2009, 14:29.
