Saguaro Age

Image of Caryophyllales

Description:

Summary[edit] Description: English: On Sep 1, 2014, the top fully-developed areole of this saguaro tree was marked with a metal ring. In the next 2 years, the saguaro developed 3 areoles/year. In the following 2 years, it developed 2 areoles/year. Saguaros develop less areoles per year as they grow bigger. It is likely that this saguaro will slow down further, developing only 1 areole/year. The number of areoles on each vertical column can be used to estimate the age of the tree. Date: 21 February 2009, 23:07:30. Source: Own work. Author: Jarir Maani. Camera location31° 56′ 12.12″ N, 111° 14′ 59.21″ W View all coordinates using: OpenStreetMap 31.936700; -111.249780.
