Northern Harrier

Image of Circus Lacépède 1799

Description:

Description: Another new bird for my life list! This male northern harrier just sat in the grass clumps for a long time, looking this way and that, searching for prey I assume. It may have been guarding a nest nearby, as they nest on the ground. We parked alongside the road and watched for maybe ten minutes. Finally it took off after something in the grass. It flew a zig-zag pattern close to the ground, obviously chasing something, occasionally pouncing but never coming up with anything. Eventually it just flew away over the hills. It was pretty far away, so I couldn't catch a very good shot of it. This was the best of my efforts. I'm also not very good at catching birds in flight.. yet.. so those photos are pretty much a loss. There are much better shots of northern harriers on flickr. Have a look: www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=northern+harrier&m.. (Washington, USA). Date: 28 March 2007, 08:35. Source: Northern Harrier.
