It is very distinct from all otherAlders in several resi)ects. Its bright glossygreen foliage is in strong contrast to the dullgreen of the other Alders, and its period ofblossoming, instead of l)eing wiien the trees areleafless in early spring, as with the otherspecies, is not until autumn: Then the effectof its golden catkins and handsome foliagetogether is very pleasing and gives the tree apeculiar ornamental value.
