Chroicocephalus ridibundus (24307276538)

Image of Hooded gulls

Description:

Summary[edit] Description: Today I decided I would practice with my new camera taking photos at high ISO (1,000 - 3,200), fast shutter speeds (1/800 - 1/8000). I went to a park nearby and spotted a bridge which had several black-headed gulls standing on the wooden columns that bordered it. My goal was to take a picture of a bird in mid-flight. I would focus on a bird, and manually re-focused as approached it, ready to take a picture as soon as it took off. I walked home after about 200 images and found a few successful shots. Funnily enough, I found the successful shots to be boring, while this one, which I deemed "unsuccessful" the first time I looked at it, ended up being my favorite. I consider this a lucky shot, as I did not compose it in purpose. I would like to better understand what it is about this image that makes me find it so pleasing so that I can learn to better control my compositions in the future.
