Description:
Summary[edit] Description: English: Painted (or marbled) reed frog. Alerted, showing startle coloration in the form of red areas normally hidden, clinging to vertical wall. Date: 27 November 2008. Source: Own work. Author: JonRichfield. This colour variant subspecies (Hyperolius marmoratus verrucosus) occurs in the far south of South Africa. This specimen was photographed near Somerset West, which is beyond the western limits of its traditional range, but the species is spreading on nursery stock distributed by human agency. The frog changes colour seasonally or if injured, so that it is difficult to identify by colour alone.
