Description:
Heracleum maximum Bartram—cow parsnip. I include the full botanical name to honor William Bartram, who described one of the best known American plants, and his father John. They are two of the most important botanists in American history. John, provided Linnaeus with much of the New World material used in forming the Linnaean system. William traveled widely describing the natural history of the Eastern seaboard and illustrating its flora and fauna. Bartram Garden in Philadelphia honors the two and their scions.
