Status: native. Chorotype: Submediterranean-Subatlantic. Note: Spiranthes spiralis (L.) Chevall. is a species whose range extends in many areas of western, southern and south-eastern Europe, Anatolia and Caucasus. In Liguria it is widespread and quite frequent, but like many geophytes it is in regression, because the pastures and grasslands in which it grows are progressively colonized by woody plants, due to the land abandonment. Its presence and its growth in most of the stations where are in fact related to the grasslands mowing. Another risk factor is related to the overpopulation of wild boar and badgers, which uproot its tubers to feed on them, while roe deer and fallow deer graze the stations, eating the flower stems before flowering or fruiting.
