Summary[edit] Description: Source: Kristina M. Sefc, Alexandria C. Brown, Ethan D. Clotfelter (2014) Carotenoid-based coloration in cichlid fishes. Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cbpa.2014.03.006 Published by Elsevier Fig. 3. Geographic color variation in a cichlid fish. Phylogenetic relationships among selected examples of the rich variety of differently colored populations of the genus Tropheus ( Schupke, 2003 and Konings, 2013) reveal differentiation in body and fin coloration between close relatives as well as repeated evolution of similar colors. The taxonomy of the genus is not fully resolved; nominal and suggested species supported by genetic data and assortative mating are indicated. The population tree is based on data from Egger et al. (2007) and Koblmüller et al. (2011). Photographs: Ad Konings (T. sp. Mpimbwe), Wolfgang Gessl and Peter Berger. Date: 15 June 2014, 15:59. Source: 1-s2.0-S1095643314000658-gr3.
