Description:
Summary[edit] Description: Malosma laurina—laurel sumac. A relatively common tree/shrub in Southern California, laurel sumac range extends from San Obispo County to La Paz, Baja California Sur. It receives its common name for the leaves resemblance to the old world Laurel nobilis. In the late 19th/early 20th century days of the "orange boom" the tree was used as an indicator of frost-safe locations because of its sensitive to freezing temperatures. The plant that provided the flowers grows at Regional Parks Botanic Garden (where it defies the odds and grows in a location that gets some frost every winter) located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
