Description:

Summary[edit] Description: English: A lichen - Ramalina fastigiata This species was growing on a tree beside a footpath near Carman Reservoir. Different lichen species vary greatly in their ability to tolerate air pollution (sulphur dioxide, in particular); this ability is quantified using the Hawksworth and Rose Zone scale, which runs from 0 ('most polluted') to 10 ('pure'). Ramalina fastigiata is assigned to zone 9, meaning that it is very sensitive to pollution; its presence here therefore indicates that air pollution levels in this part of the country are very low. For other Ramalina species, see: 933106, 1073602, 1073623, 1843154. Date: 27 April 2007. Source: From geograph.org.uk. Author: Lairich Rig.
