Description:
Summary[edit] Description: English: Spotted thick-knee / Spotted dikkop, Burhinus capensis, in burnt grassland at Marievale Nature Reserve, Gauteng, South Africa. Grassland of the highveld region dries out in winter and is prone to fires through natural or human action. If the build up of plant matter was moderate, the fires burn at lower temperatures. Plant roots are not damaged and vagrant birds descend on the freshly burnt blocks to forage on burnt insects and insects devoid of cover. Date: 6 September 2013, 08:57.
